Snow Falls, Snow Goes Away

As you can see, the snow helped many people escape from the cares of the day, even if for a little while, as it blanketed central Texas.

Very few school districts in central Texas cancelled classes, including the Austin ISD and Georgetown ISD.  Killeen, Leander and Round Rock schools released students early.

During the day, children and families alike ventured outdoors to build snowmen and take in such a rare sight.  It's the first snow storm in central Texas in many years.  Thick snowflakes pounded the area for hours.  Roads, although slick for some, remained fairly safe.  Austin police reported at least 100 accidents on area roadways, while Georgetown police say their traffic calls were up by nearly 25 percent.

The City of Austin reports it will resume normal operating schedules on Wednesday, Feb. 24., along with Travis County employees.  The agencies caution people to still use extreme caution during the commute, although the threat of icing conditions has dissipated.

Whatever the situation was for each person, whether it be students at school throwing snow balls at each other, or employees taking a break from their jobs to bask in the snow, it was a day not to be forgotten anytime soon.  It doesn't happen very often in central Texas.

But as the old saying goes, "If you don't like the weather in Texas, wait 10 minutes.  It'll change."

And it has.
