Austin ISD board trustees approved the creation of attendance boundaries for the new Southwest Elementary School at their meeting Monday night. The boundaries will also address overcrowding and under-capacity at Boone, Clayton, Cowan, Kiker, Mills, Oak Hill, Patton and Sunset Valley Elementary Schools. The recommendations were approved 7-2.
The attendance boundaries, known as Plan 3, were recommended by the Facility Use and Boundary Task Force. The Task Force's approved recommendations also include grandfathering at these schools for students entering fifth grade during the 2010-2011 school year, and maintaining current staffing levels at Boone and Sunset Valley through at least the next school year.
The new Southwest Elementary School will open this August for the next school year, and a name is scheduled to be selected by AISD trustees on March 29.
