As the new year starts, advertisements run on TV promoting gym specials and health food stores single out their products they believe will sell to unsuspecting resolution makers. But Thom Singer, who is an Austin blogger, author, speaker, and communications consultant, recently wrote about how we can all live better without buying into workout programs or pills.
"Do something bigger than you have done before," Singer writes in his blog, 22 Random Suggestions for a Better Life in 2010. "Make a mark on the world. Do not be timid."
Singer's 22 suggestions are all inexpensive. In fact, they are motivational bullets that aim to effect your mindset. Many times, the mind is all that needs changing to have a brand new outlook and the oomph needed to get moving.
Number 2: Break ties with people who are holding you back or not supportive of your goals. You are influenced by those around you and your success is linked to the character of the people with whom you associate.
I have actually done this - a couple of times. I never thought I'd be one to get rid of "friends." But that's exactly what I did because of who they were - emphasis on "quote" friends.
I do need to read more - as Singer recommends in number 4. He says just a short time will change your view of the world. But, I, like many people, have mastered number 10: Embrace a new technology. Some of the technology I use include Twitter, video/audio recorders, internet web builders, and more! Twitter, especially, is a part of everyday life in my household.
You can find all of these great suggestions on Singer's blog, Some Assembly Required. Make sure you read number 11, and find out how you can change your life this year without spending a dime!
