Get the H1N1 flu shot now. That's the word from the Texas Health Department, encouraging people to get their vaccination now.
“There is the potential for another wave of illness. People should not become complacent about protecting themselves,” said Dr. David Lakey, DSHS commissioner. “Get vaccinated, wash your hands and stay home if you’re sick.”
As already reported, the vaccine supply has increased to the point that medical professional aren't strictly focusing on the target groups anymore (pregnant women, health care workers, young children, those who work with young children, and those with chronic health problems). In fact, health officials in Texas are urging providers to offer the vaccine to anyone who wants it.
An estimated 7.6 million doses have been allocated to Texas; 870,000 of the doses were allocated last week alone. By January, nearly 13 million doses are expected to arrive in the Lone Star State. If you would like to receive your vaccine, check with your health care provider on their availability of the vaccine. You can also check with the flu vaccine locator service by clicking here. Travis County is also holding several more H1N1 vaccine clinics. Two are scheduled for January on the 9th and 21st.
