Please don't judge my Saucer habit. I had a good reason tonight. Actually, two!
Aside from passing the 70 mark on my beer count -- full steam ahead to my goal of 200 and my party -- tonight Gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman and former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura made an appearance. I got there about 15 minutes before 5, only to see my station, a competitor & the radio station already set up, along with a few hundred people..a far cry from last night's 50 or so people for Texas pint night. So I walked around for 20 minutes before finding a lone seat, then the older couple sitting near me left, and Sarah arrived & grabbed the extra seat I'd saved for her. By the time she got there, Kinky & Jesse had already arrived & made their way to the KTSA booth to talk live on air. It was quite a spectacle...no matter who you support, it's a thrill to see campaigns & supporters in action.
So I've been informed of the out of context information being drug up by the other parties also vying for thr spot of Governor. This race is a circus like all the rest...but I'd bet if a bunch of candidates like Kinky were running, the process wouldn't necessarily be this dirty. Props to Kinky for that.
I still have a lot learn, but I do know it's exciting to see this part of our democratic system at work...and apart from all the bullshit of campaigns that you might normally think, I believe witnessing it first hand is indeed a breath of fresh air. I'm glad I went... when I showed up at first I was not excited about being there because of the large crowd, no seat, and generally removed from the situation. I gave it a shot and found out that other people are there more or less for the same reason I am...to find out more about Kinky...many there to applaud their choice for governor. But I learned I don't have to be insecure about anything. I'm just trying to find my place like everyone else, and in the process I'm learning about life, politics, and this game of sides. Who's are you on?
