How Police Plan on Cutting Down Crime Along E. Riverside Drive Corridor

Austin police say the month of May begins a noticeable increase in violent crime along the East Riverside Drive corridor.  That's why APD's South Bureau, the Austin Fire Department, and the Public Assembly Code Enforcement Team will be activating a response mission to reduce criminal activity, including robbery of individuals and aggravated assaults.

Members of the initiative will be visiting clubs and bars to enforce occupancy limits, building codes, city ordinances and alcohol laws.  The teams hope to earn a trusting partnership with area businesses to help police enforce laws, thereby cutting down on incidents of violent crime.

Police say the victims are mostly Spanish speaking immigrants who frequent clubs and bars.  APD's South Central District Representative seeks to provide community outreach and education for residents by making citizen contact.  Police say past violent crime reduction efforts have proven successful to communities where task force members focused their attention.
