The six foot, one inch former star of the Texas Longhorns is trading his cowboy hat for a... well what the hell is Ohio known for? I guess you could say one of its notable features is the Cleveland Browns, where our own goody two shoes Colt McCoy is headed. Thanks to my good trusty source, Wikipedia, the Cleveland Browns is named after Paul Brown, the team's first head coach in 1946.
McCoy became the 85th pick of the 2010 NFL draft, and was announced by his former coach at Texas, Mack Brown. NoLogoNeeded.com's Brandon Rastok believes the Browns can't go wrong with the winningest quarterback in the history of college football.
Still, Rastok writes he's not sure the choice for Colt was the best, but he maintains it's clearly not a bad pick. "Personally I would have rather the Browns work the draft, trade up and grab Jimmy Clausen. I see Clausen as a better quarterback and a steal in the middle of the second round. However, you can’t deny selecting a player who, prior to the draft, tells everyone Cleveland is where he wants to be. McCoy is athletic, determined, and carries enough moxy to where he might be able to make this work."
But who knows the Texas star more than a person who covers the news in the Austin market? John Salazar is a local television photojournalist whose extensive knowledge of Austin, the University of Texas, and its players makes even the greatest sports minds turn heads. Salazar thinks going from the burnt orange to the Browns will become a, well, muddy mess.
"The Cleveland Browns are a terrible organization; Colt will do nothing for the team," Salazar said. "The result of that marriage will be Colt being battered and his NFL career being cut very short."
Ouch. Texas fans most likely won't give up on McCoy that easily, at least the die hard ones anyway. Even this sign in Austin, courtesy Nancy Zambrano via Twitpic, is facing up to the fact they might have to switch favorite teams as their favorite QB heads to Yankee-ville. And, as the caption of the Cleveland Sports Blog Network asks, "Is Colt McCoy the Browns' franchise QB of the future?"
The answer: "We'll have to wait and find out."
By the way, McCoy's first name is Daniel. Just doesn't have the same pizazz as Colt. Skeptics say he'll need all the pizazz he can get in Cleveland.

I have to disagree with my pal John here. Sure, the Cleveland browns have notoriously been a losing organization, and I dont see Colt turning that around right away. But remember, it wasnt very long ago when the New Orleans "Aints" were viewed as a losing organization too. They brought in Drew Brees and started building the team around him, and ... See Morejust won the Superbowl!! You have to start somewhere. I think in time, Colt WILL turn that franchise around if they build the team around him. And with Holmgren there now, Colt is in good hands. Just ask Joe Montana, Steve Young, Brett Farve and Matt Hasselbeck!!
Good riddance. The dude lost the championships because... he couldn't feel his arm? Buck up, camper! They don't take that kind of guff up in Ohio, where "With God, all things are possible"!
