It's literally the time to make yourself count now that the U.S. Census campaign is out in full force. The city of Austin is helping the federal program count right here in central Texas with an outreach campaign to the public to stress the importance of the 2010 census, encouraging people to participate.
The city's message consists of three simple points:
- It's safe to complete the Census survey. The U.S. government will not release any personal information about you. It will not ask about criminal background, immigration status, or other information you would choose not to disclose.
- The Census is easy to complete. You will fill out 10 questions.
- The Census is important. It ensures Austin and Travis County receive the resources they need from the U.S. government, depending on the number of people in the area.
Throughout March, the city will work to spread information about the census and will use social media to publish facts about the meaning of filling out the census. The month-long effort will last until April 1, which is the deadline for turning in census information.
