Austin City Council Member Sheryl Cole brought the city's housing issues to the forefront last week when she brought forward a resolution to direct funds toward helping those in greatest need for affordable housing.
The resolution calls for permanent supportive housing, as well as housing that's within reach of poeple earning less than 30% of Austin's median family income. It also asks the City Manager to work with community leaders to develop strategies to build 350 permanent supportive housing units during the next four years.
Cole was joined by Council Members Randi Shade and Chris Riley in developing the resolution, which will also allow the city to keep funding home repair and home ownership programs. The resolution passed with a unanimous vote.
