Totally Cool, Totally Art Exhibition is Totally Here!

The Austin Parks and Recreation Cultural Affairs Division invites you to attend its annual Totally Cool, Totally Art Exhibition displayed at the Mexic-Arte Museum, located at 419 Congress St.

The exhibit runs from February 11th to February 24th with the opening reception held on February 11th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. The exhibition will feature works done by youth in grades 6 through 12 spanning a wide variety of media, including painting, drawing, fashion, film, dance, and sculpture.

Totally Cool, Totally Art is funded by the Austin City Council’s “Social Fabric Initiative,” whose goal is to offer an after school alternative for teens.

Professional artists from the Dougherty Arts Center and Teen Coordinators from the Parks and Recreation Departments Recreation Centers partner in Totally Cool, Totally Art to give youth an exciting choice of activities during hours when teens are known to be more at risk for gang involvement, drugs, and other non-productive or high-risk behavior.

Since 1996 the program has served as a creative outlet for self-expression and encourages healthy camaraderie for teens during high-risk hours after school. One of this year’s participants stated, “The thing I like best about the TCTA program is the ability to express myself creatively in a fun environment.”
