St. David's Austin Hospital Announces Renaming and Expansion

A $72 million capital investment at St. David's South Austin Hospital will fund a 100,000 square foot expansion that will bring 25 percent more bed capacity to the hospital.  Along with the expansion, the facility is changing its name to St. David's South Austin Medical Center.

“The expansion will enhance our current capabilities by providing superior accommodations for patients and their families,” Brett Matens, interim chief executive officer of St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, said. “As the region grows, it is important to have more physical space to serve our rapidly expanding region.”

The expansion plans include clinical improvements that will bring a new three-story patient tower to the hospital, an expanded and dedicated women's services area, renovations to surgical suites and new operating rooms. There are also other upgrades planned to waiting areas, parking, and extended stay suites.  An auditorium is also in the works, as well as a renovated chapel and a remodeled dining area.

The expansion is expected to bring new jobs to the hospital, including an increase in nursing staff and support staff.   The project is expected to break ground this April, and should take two years to complete.
