New Braunfels-based Schlitterbahn Waterparks will be bringing "a new experiential entertainment resort" that is expected to be built in Cedar Park. The official announcement came after a lengthy tax incentive board approval and city council meeting Thursday at the Cedar Park City Council Chambers inside the Cedar Park Public Library.
Allen Chen of Austinist suspects that the announcement may be tied to a proposal announced in 2007 by Rick Redmond, owner of the Volente Beach Waterpark on Lake Travis. At the time, the plan was to open a water park by 2008. However, other than some land deals by Redmond, nothing had been finalized until now.
At the time of the original announcement nearly three years ago, Redmond said, “I think it would do for Cedar Park what Dell Diamond did for Round Rock."
Schlitterbahn Waterparks currently operates four locations: Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort in New Braunfels, Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark on South Padre Island, Schlitterbahn Galveston Island, and Schlitterbahn Vacation Village in Kansas City, Kansas.
