In a blog by the Stateman's Jason Embry, Strayhorn had talks with the party's chairman, Boyd Richie, on Tuesday about the bid. Embry writes party spokeswoman Kirsten Gray confirmed the conversation, which is said to have been initiated by Strayhorn.
The politician made famous by her tag line, "One tough grandma," held the comptroller job twice already, as a Republican.
Strayhorn's political life has been active this year. She also sought the mayor's seat after two-term leader Will Wynn vacated the post in June, but failed to garner enough votes to be counted in the runoff election.
Strayhorn has run for multiple offices on several occasions as a Republican, Democrat, and Independent.
