If you have an apetite for home cooked food, Austin is the place to be. If Indian cuisine fits the bill, Austin is the place to be. Are you in the mood for some fruits and vegetables grown locally? Then, you guessed it, Austin is the place to be.
Eat Local Week 2009 is in full swing. It's an opportunity to raise money for a great cause - Urban Roots - which is a program geared toward youth development.
About Urban Roots
Urban Roots uses agriculture to change the lives of young people. It also aims to increase the access of healthy food in Austin. Youth interns are hired to grow more than 20,000 pounds of produce every year. 40% is donated to hunger relief; the rest is sold at farmers' markets.
What is Eat Local Week
The week kicked off on December 5 and runs until December 12. The city of Austin is supporting the event and GO TEXAN is another sponsor to encourage everyone to buy and eat local, from restaurants to home parties that serve a buffet of locally grown food.
The Eat Local Week web site wants you to dine out, shop, and attend some of the featured events to show your support throughout the week.
