My mood has been mostly mellow as I stumble on the realization that without a trip to our nearly nightly hub, The Flying Saucer, I find little to no motivation for any real activities upon which to stimulate my mind, body & spirit. Luckily, that's when Sarah is head-full of ideas and eventually reverted to a relaxation-type remedy for my sullen soul. I had a nice bath, with a glass of wine & some candles. Feminine, perhaps. But why not treat yourself (or have your wife treat you once in a while)?
On the radio tonight was a very nice piece of classical composition by a Franz Schubert...whom I learned a little about on the internet:
Franz Peter Schubert (January 31, 1797 - November 19, 1828) was an Austrian composer considered to be both the last master of the Viennese Classical school and one of the earliest proponents of musical Romanticism.
Sarah has identified me with the Romantic era. What is your period of music which you identify the most with, and why? Please be specific because I believe this is a really interesting topic.
I haven't really studied Romanticism as it relates to musical style, but I think the period really speaks to my subconscience in a way heavy metal cannot. I guess I'm the type who processes layered instrument melodies and harmonies to provoke a solemn & analytical side of me. Maybe I'm too ADD for heavy metal or rap or whatever. If I'm moving at the same pace inside as the pumped up music, maybe I'd explode.
Not to say that I don't like music with a little pep. And we all know I'm a bluegrass/folk enthusiast & Nickel Creek is one of my favorite groups.
And who can forget jazz. There are so many styles. The Franz Schubert really hit the spot tonight, though.

Schubert is amazing....very deep and complex depending on what pieces you listen to. I'm thrilled that you are taking a little time to yourself for some R&R. Life doesn't have to be hustle and bustle all the time. A bath, candles, wine and some great music can do more for your soul than close proximity to a party of 100 people.
I'll have to get back to you concerning which musical era with which I most closely identify. As I am very changeable my music is usually a reflection of what I'm feeling at the moment and its difficult to pin-point just one composer/artist. I truly can relate to anything from Norah Jones, to the Blues and Jazz, to
Classical, to Sarah Brighton and Pavarati to pop, to rock to alternative. Its a reflection of who I am at that moment. I tend to find myself listening over and over to Carla Bruni, ColdPlay when I'm working out and/or biking, Norah Jones and Christina Aguguilera's "Hurt" and other similar musical selections(its so soulfull and intense) while journaling/blogging. Blues and Jazz while hanging out with friends or wishing I was hanging out with friends. Classical Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikosky, Braums, Wagner, Vivaldi etc when I'm working or looking for complexity and beauty in composition. And alternative, pop and rock when I feel like I'm "all that and then some" :) or if I'm seiously ticked about something.
Its entirely dependent upon my mood. I don't know what I would be classified as....but I'll keep thinking about it and let you know.
In conclusion....never be one dimensional in your thinking or your appreciation of the arts, life or your process of evolving into the person you are meant to be. So enjoy your evening, let Sarah pamper you and be happy that you have someone who loves you enough to recognize what you really need....not what you think you need.
Enjoy. Here is to the romantics in life. There are to few and those who do exist are sometimes criticized for their complexities. What others need to realize is that without complexity life quickly becomes mundane. Enjoy your differences.
