Boring?

Boring?

Had a conversation with this guy at work which has kind of been on my mind today...about being a boring person.

He was saying how some of his ex-girlfriends couldn't understand how he had so many hobbies, and that all they ever liked to do is go to bars, eat sushi, and mooch. He got frustrated that they wanted to occupy a lot of his time, so when they did, they just ended up doing pretty much nothing.

So I was thinking about what I do... I go to bars, I like to eat out. But aside from that am I a just pretty boring person? I hang out with my wife the majority of time, I am learning to play my mandolin, I bowl with Jesse & Mike on our league, I listen & consume tons of jazz & classical music - along with Nickel Creek. Oh, I play with the doggies & hang out at the dog park quite a bit. I try to pick up my book to read, although this is my least acted upon activity... and I'm trying to change that.

Being a boring person hardly has ever been a personal consideration when I think about my life. It always seems there is too much to do, rather than too little. My days off are filled with a lot of nothing, which is good to some extent. You can't hwar or smell the picture, but it's me sitting in my chair after cleaning the house, and I have NPR's classical station on the radio as I sit & relax. I usually clean house in the late afternoon every Monday. It's a nice time to clean...and then my baby gets home & we eat dinner and decide what we're gonna do for the night.

I think being boring needs to be a little part of life because you can't always be 'on.' It helps me get thru lazy afternoons until I find something not boring to do!

I see you're blogging from your phone! :) I can't stand having a ton of hobbies, personally... it makes me feel LESS accomplished when I have a whole bunch of things that I haven't finished or haven't started... I'd rather just stick to a few things that I really enjoy, like trying new beers at Flying Saucer, or learning the guitar (maybe).

love you!

A sense of being well rounded includes allowing yourself the time for reflection, relaxation and the recharging of your batteries. Its good to have a variety of things you enjoy but at the same point an individual needs to be careful so they are not "keeping busy" because they are uncomfortable spending time alone.

The balance between hobbies and down time is different for each person...don't judge yourself by someone elses standards. If the situation works for you, then go with the flow.

Personally....I love being alone and relaxing, it allows me to value the time spent out and about with friends or pursuing a hobby even more than if I was in a constant state of "busyness".

Talk to you soon.
