Fun at the Dog Park

In an attempt to make my days off a little more interesting, a little more entertaining, and a little less dull... after three weeks of knawing over whether I should take my dogs to the dog park... we finally went. And it was... GREAT! This is the entrance to the Pearsall Dog Park on Old Pearsall Road. It's over an acre of fenced in fun. I was a little worried that other animals would make my dogs go crazy, and if there were other animals here today we wouldn't have gone in. But no one was there, and Barker actually acted decently. I think the extreme heat is what helped their behavior. Can't act bad if you're too busy panting.

They quickly figured out where the water bucket was, and made it a frequent stop as they scurried about the park to sniff what other creatures have been here before. Barker tried to pee on every single tree. I also posed a question to Sarah a while back, which I had never thought of before: What if Barker and Hailey were all alone somewhere in the forest. Would they stick together? Well, I think I got the answer because Hailey followed Barker all over the park, and Barker seemed to take some pride in the fact that he was leading them around. They are their own pack... and whatever Barker's mood around other animals (which is usually crazy and protective), he will always be a brother to Hailey, and that's very cool.

When we adopted Hailey, she was outside, and she loved this blue pool like kids sit and splash around in. Ever since, Hailey really hasn't been one to get dirty or wet anymore. I guess heat brings this side of her out. So here she is, not really drinking the water, but trying to "dig" the water with her front paws so it would splash all over her... you know, a doggie air conditioner. I think this is one of the best shots of the afternoon. Of course, how can I possibly pick out my absolute favorite... there are so many!

Barker's tongue is always to be captured on film. I loved the article on MSNBC about how dogs think. And I always think about what my dogs are thinking. We often times give dogs human thought processes, because that's one of the best and easiest ways to match their actions to our ways and perception of life. It's just not that way, though. Whereas we might think they are putting more "thought" into what they're doing... they're simply acting on simple lateral thoughts -- eat, lie down, toy, eat, sleep. What would you think Barker is brewing over here? Probably... HOT!

As far as my own thoughts go, I'm really, really on the hunt for something to help make a difference. I really want to get out there and do things that count. I have been thinking about a Dog Blog, maybe to help dogs get adopted, bring awareness about pits and others with bad reputations for being aggressive. I'm also really trying to get myself out there as a photographer. I'm going to be talking with the studio tomorrow for the associate wedding photographer position. Just as a side job. They canceled on me last week, so tomorrow hopefully is my chance to get in there and really impress them. There are just so many things I want to do. I would love to live in England for a while. What do ya say, sweetie?

One more thing before I go... in a past blog I talked about my guys in college -- John, Todd, Jesse, Mike, Chris... well as it turns out, I was right that John would know what the picture I posted is from. John informed me that it was our senior year, because if you look closely, we're wearing the same clothes outside as we are in the picture by the Sophomoric Delusions sign. And that was our senior year. We lived in Suite 128 during our junior year. So at that point, it was just John, me, Jesse and Todd living in our apartment -- no Chris or Mike.

Must go -- thanks for the info John!

I wished we had a dog park in J-Town. Great pics of the pups. I need some new ones of Bogey.
