Runners Converge on Austin's Streets in Half Marathon

Runners will be racing through streets in town this weekend, causing full and partial street closures.

The 3M Half Marathon, with more than 5,000 runners expected, is back in Austin. The city of Austin wants drivers to be aware of the events, and to pay attention to the street closures because it will affect traffic in central and north Austin.

Here's the lowdown: the Marathon begins on Sunday at 7 a.m. at Stone Lake Blvd. (between Loop 360 and Mopac) and ends at Waterloo Park, downtown. Street closures will affect many roads from 3:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on January 24. Key intersections will be controlled by Police officers. Below is a list of some of the major road closures:

Full Road Closures:
  • Stone Lake Blvd. from Research Blvd. SB to Braker Ln.
  • Braker Ln. from Stone Lake Blvd. to Research Blvd. SB
  • Great Northern Blvd. from Foster Ln. to McElroy Dr.
  • Shoal Creek Blvd. from McElroy Dr. to Foster Ln.
  • San Jacinto Blvd. from Duval St. to Trinity St.
  • Trinity St. from San Jacinto Blvd. to East 12th St.
Partial Road Closures:
  • Jollyville Rd. from Adolph Alley to Mesa Dr.
  • Mesa Dr. from Jollyville Road to Spicewood Springs Rd.
  • Spicewood Springs from Mesa Dr. to West Anderson Ln.
  • West Anderson Ln. from Spicewood Springs Rd. to Shoal Creek Blvd.
  • Shoal Creek Blvd. from West Anderson Ln. to Foster Ln.
  • Northcross Dr. from Foster Ln. to Burnet Rd.
  • Burnet Rd. from Northcross Dr. to West North Loop Blvd.
  • Duval St. from East 53rd St. to San Jacinto Blvd.
