For the people, by the people, of the people is a motto the city is adopting when it comes to Austin's future. Imagine Austin is a plan city leaders want to put in the people's hands Monday, January 25 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Mexican American Cultural Center, 600 River Street.
How do you see the future of Austin? If you have ideas, you're asked to share them at the gathering, dubbed "Meeting in a Box." It will be faciliated by the Cultural Arts Division of Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services and the Create Austin Cultural Plan Community Leadership Team. It's a mouthful, but city officials want an earful, too!
This is the perfect chance to tell the people in charge what you like or don't like about Austin's growth.
According to the City Charter, the comprehensive plan for Austin contains "the council's policies for growth, development and beautification of the land within the corporate limits and the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the city." Recommendations can be made for Austin's Health and Human Services, parks and open space, transportation, water resources, housing, land use, public buildings, economic development, conservation and environmental resources.
What will Austin be like in 10, 20 or 30 years? More information can be found here and here.
