Austin is among three markets (the other two are San Antonio and St. Louis) getting a broadband boost from AT&T. The new service is called "AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet Max Turbo" and offers customers broadband speeds of up to 24 Mbps downstream and up to 3 Mbps upstream.
While the new service sounds fast, critics are saying that the further away customers are from neighborhood broadband gateways, the slower their service will tend to be - sometimes well below the advertised speeds.
The new service will be available to residential customers for $65 a month as part of a bundle, and to business customers for $95 a month.
