Fat, Fitness, and Facts on Health

I signed up for the gym recently as I began to think about my mortality. Next year I’ll be 30 and I just think that my waist line needed a little work. I didn’t want to be one of those guys with a gut over the pant line.

But just how do you control what’s going on with your health when it’s so hard? How do you find time for the gym if you’ve got all this other stuff going on? How do you avoid the extremely delicious salted and greased french fries?

On today’s show, Dr. Barbara Berkeley shares some of her thoughts on America’s health situation and how we need to take control of it. She made observations on a recent trip to Europe and noticed how well people there handle their diets. So why can’t we do the same? Also, Sarah Loyd, my wife, shares her personal story of how she’s dealing with weight loss. Nearing the 300 pound mark last year, she said it was time to do something about it. Sarah recently celebrated her one year anniversary with Weight Watchers and is proud to be at 221 pounds as of this week. Her goal is 140 pounds, half of her original starting weight. Plus, Brooke Straub gives us a little motivation when it comes to actually getting to the gym.

Conner, a 10 year old boy in Colorado is also a part of the podcast today. He’s raising money in order to provide tins of popcorn for children who don’t have enough to eat. Along with his dad, Conner is raising the money for food bank programs across the nation who send children home with backpacks full of food for the weekend. Conner would like to send a tin of popcorn in every single one of those backpacks. But hurry, in order to meet the holiday deadline, you will need to make your donation by October 18. In addition, you may also buy popcorn for yourself or for others as holiday gifts.
